Spring 2015: Now recruiting for EXITO Scholars

UAA is a collaborator on an NIH BUILD grant. The grant's goal is to increase the number of under-represented groups in bio-medical research careers

We are currently recruiting our first group of EXITO scholars.

EXITO scholars will be UAA students who, after being accepted into the program, receive funding, mentoring and research experiences designed to lead them into higher education and a career in bio-medical research. Information about the program as well as application information are available here.

A few things to note:

• Students receive funding to participate in the program. Over the four years this can add up to several thousand of dollars.
• While the goal is to increase the number of under-represented minorities in bio-medical research careers, the EXITO scholar program is open to any student. We want any and all students who meet the criteria to apply.
• The term under-represented is broadly defined and includes, for example, youth who have aged out of the foster care system, economically disadvantaged, individuals with disabilities, people who came from an inhibiting educational environment, as well as certain racial and ethic groups.

The key criteria for applying are:

• U.S. Citizen, permanent resident or non-citizen national
• Full-time undergraduate student registered at UAA
• No more than 48 semester hours (still have two years remaining in degree program)
• Cumulative college GPA of 2.5 or higher
