UAA selects Sam Gingerich as provost and executive vice chancellor for Academic Affairs

UAA has named Samuel Gingerich to its top academic administrative position. He brings more than 30 years of higher education experience to his new role as UAA's provost. Please read the following announcement from Chancellor Tom Case for more information.

"After consultation with the Provost Search Committee members and several members of the UAA community, last week I offered the position of Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs to Interim Provost Dr. Samuel Gingerich. Sam has agreed to serve in the role for a two-year term.

Though this is a different direction than we'd planned at the outset of the search for a new provost, I believe Sam's more than 30 years of leadership experience in higher education will greatly benefit UAA as we move through challenges similar to those seen in universities in the Lower 48. Prior to retiring in 2014, Dr. Gingerich spent eight years on the South Dakota Board of Regents and as the System Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Gingerich also served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Mississippi University for Women, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Interim President at Mesa State College/Colorado Mesa University.

In addition to holding several other leadership posts, Dr. Gingerich has been a faculty member and active researcher in the field of Chemistry. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Montana State University and his M.S. in Chemistry from Cornell University in New York State. Sam's background, coupled with his seamless integration into the UAA leadership team, make his two-year appointment to this position the best choice for UAA during this difficult fiscal situation.

I'd like to thank all who participated in the campus forums, who provided valuable feedback on the provost candidates, and most especially, to the search committee for their diligent work in helping to fill this vital position. We will launch another search for our next provost prior to the end of Dr. Gingerich's term."
