UAA and Northrim Bank partner to offer local commercial lending training

UAA's Center for Corporate and Professional Development (CCPD) has entered into an agreement with Northrim Bank to provide commercial lending training to employees at Northrim Bank and other financial institutions within the state. At this point, anyone requiring development in the area of commercial lending needs to go out of state to attend training. This adds additional expenses through travel, lodging and other related costs. In addition, when someone goes outside for training, they typically take as much training as they can while there. This leads to reduced retention due to the sheer volume of the material covered in the time-frame available.

The Center for Corporate and Professional Development initiated the new, in-state training program with Northrim Bank. After initial discussions, key contributors from Northrim Bank, First National Bank and Mt. McKinley Bank were invited to help design the classes being offered. Initial rollout of the classes is scheduled to begin in late September. Classes will include Commercial Lending, Financial Statement Analysis, Cash Flow Analysis, Tax Return Analysis, Business Development and Negotiations. Classes will be available to anyone within the financial sector or anyone interested in learning about the subject matter. Learn more and view the schedule at the CCPD website.

According to Steve Hinds, director at CCPD, "This is an exceptional partnership between the Center for Corporate and Professional Development and the business community. Through this partnership, banks in Alaska will have the opportunity of sending their employees to continuing development classes locally. In addition to reducing the costs for travel, lodging and such, classes will be presented over a greater span of time. This gives the students a greater opportunity for retention of the material covered before coming back for that next level of development."

Hinds went on to say this is just another step in the progress of the university partnering with Alaska-based businesses to develop training and development opportunities for their employees. By drawing on the wealth of knowledge that exists within the faculty and staff at UAA, CCPD can work with organizations to develop classes that are not available at present.
