Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, 2015: ePortfolio workshops

Join Academic Innovations & eLearning for two upcoming workshops on ePortfolios.

Using ePortfolios to Connect Outcomes to Evidence Monday, Aug. 31, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307

Presenter: Helen L. Chen (Stanford University) is a research scientist in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the ePortfolio project manager in the Office of the Registrar.

Recent demands for accountability and transparency in higher education have brought attention to how the impact and effectiveness of teaching and learning outcomes are measured and assessed. Ashley Kehoe's expanded definition of the "e" in ePortfolio-encompassing not just the "electronic" but also evidence, engagement and experience-informs this talk's exploration of the question: What are the pathways and approaches by which a learner-centered ePortfolio, together with a traditional academic transcript, represents a more authentic and valid educational record of a learner's skills, knowledge and capacities?

Pathways for Learning: Bridging Curricular and Co-Curricular Learning with ePortfolios Tuesday, Sept. 1, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307

Presenter: Tracy Penny Light (St. Jerome's University) is an assistant professor whose research focuses on ePortfolio implementation and the ability for reflection in ePortfolios to transform the student experience.

Today, learners are expected to acquire disciplinary (and even interdisciplinary) knowledge, skills and abilities, and to integrate their learning in different situations and across their learning careers to demonstrate their capacities for future opportunities. In this talk, Tracy Penny Light describes the ways ePortfolios can open up pathways for learners to make visible who they are as individual learners as they provide evidence of their learning experiences to different audiences for different purposes.
