The UAA Department of Political Science hosted the 2015 Madison Cup Competition Sept. 15. In this annual event, students are tested on their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution (original and current), from the preamble down through the articles, sections and amendments.
This year, four teams participated:
- German Baquero and Sam Erickson - "The Team to Beat" (and last year's champions)
- Cat Schoessler and Kelsi Pulczinski - "The Ladies"
- Zach Christy and Kellen Fisch - "The Hamiltons"
- Austin Otos and William Jodwalis - "The Soviets"
James Muller acted as master of ceremonies and head judge. Landry Signé and Forrest Nabors served as additional judges.
The Team to Beat were the first to advance to the second round of the competition, and it was very close between the Ladies and the Soviets on who would be joining them. The Soviets barely squeaked into the second round, two points ahead of the Ladies. The Team to Beat lived up to their title in the second round, claiming championship and their second Madison Cups with the hard question, "Which states had five representatives in the House of Representatives before the first enumerations of persons?" (Answer: South Carolina, North Carolina and Connecticut, Article 1, Section 2).
