Fall 2015: Free wellness breaks for UAA staff

by Tracy Kalytiak  |

Additional incentives for taking wellness survey; please take the survey by Oct. 2  although it will be available through Oct. 9

The UAA Staff Council and HPER (UAA Department of Health, Physical Education & Recreation) are collaborating on a wellness pilot project this semester.

Beginning in mid-October, the pilot will bring 15-minute stress-relieving activity breaks into campus buildings during the workday, led by our own UAA students. These HPER students often leave campus to lead similar activities for required practicum hours. Instead, they can stay on campus and earn their credits by helping our own staff relax and take a wellness break.

This pilot is a response to staff requests for more onsite wellness opportunities. This wellness survey invites you to influence the sorts of activities you would most like to see. Please take the short survey this week. As a thank you for participating, those who submit their email in the survey will have the opportunity to win:

  • A Personal Fitness Assessment in the Human Performance Lab.

Includes body composition, functional movement screening, muscle fitness testing and a cardio-respiratory fitness test. It has a value of $315.

  • A Fitbit Surge, a top of the line fitness tracker/watch that retails for $250.

Although launched through the UAA Staff Council, anyone-staff, students or faculty-is welcome to drop in on a session when you see one. A schedule will be forthcoming. If you have questions, please email Liz Winfree or Kathleen McCoy, UAA Staff Council co-presidents.
