2015 Global Opportunities Expo

UAA's Office of International & Intercultural Affairs organizes the Global Opportunities Expo every year to encourage people to explore the connections between study abroad, academic programs and international internships and careers. Attend this year's expo to chat one-on-one with individuals from a variety of organizations and learn about exciting academic, intensive language, internship and service learning programs in more than 60 countries.

Tuesday, Sept. 29

Signature event: Study Abroad + Academic Programs + International Careers/Internships 10 a.m.-2 p.m. | Student Union, Upper Hall Explore the intersection of study abroad, academic opportunities, international careers and internships. Drop by the resource fair to:

  • Talk with representatives from UAA's study abroad affiliate programs, as well as the National Student Exchange and education abroad coordinators.
  • Learn about the international side of several UAA academic programs, including the languages and international studies majors, international business minor and UAA Honors College (which helps connect students to prestigious scholarships for international study).
  • Explore opportunities for after graduation: Peace Corps, Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET), Academic Advising & Career Development Center and careers in international education.
  • Discover UAA's Confucius Institute offerings.
  • Ask a student information advisor about study abroad, financial aid and scholarships.
  • Get the scoop on Alaska World Affairs Council events (UAA students can attend the luncheons for free).
  • Find out about the Student Health and Counseling Center's travel consultations for students.

Study Abroad Opportunities Fair 5:30-6:45 p.m. | Gorsuch Commons, Main Hall Delve into your possibilities to study abroad as a UAA student. Speak with representatives from five of UAA's study abroad partner programs and UAA's Education Abroad Coordinator. Representatives from the following partner programs will be present: Academic Programs International (API); AIFS Study Abroad (AIFS); Global Education Oregon (GEO - formerly AHA); Institute for Study Abroad-Butler University (IFSA-Butler); and Semester at Sea (SAS).

Study Abroad with a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship 6:45-7:45 p.m. |Gorsuch Commons, Room 107 UAA student Luke Munday will talk about his experiences in Russia, where he studied for a semester thanks to a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship. U.S. citizens who are eligible for Pell grants as part of their financial aid package are eligible to apply for the Gilman.

Language Games and Pizza Night 8-9:30 p.m. | Gorsuch Commons, Room 107 Play games while polishing your language skills with friends, faculty and classmates.
