Nov. 13, 2015: Gil Cohen-Magen presents 'Photojournaling the Gaza War'

by Michelle Saport  |

Friday, Nov. 13, 7-9 p.m. Student Union, Lyla Richard Conference Room

Gil Cohen-Magen will speak about his experience documenting last year's Gaza War, as well as his recent photo series. Light refreshments will be provided.

Gil Cohen-Magen's photographs have been published on the front pages of many of the world's leading publications. His presentation ranges from the most violent scenes of the Arab-Israeli conflict to the closed world of ultra-Orthodox Hassidim. He is a graduate of the Hadassah College of Jerusalem's Photography program, and has spent nearly a decade working with the Reuters news agency. One of his photographs was selected as one of the top 100 photographs of the decade and he has exhibited his photographs around the world.

Most recently, Cohen-Magen has been working on a series of photo essays on the ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities in Jerusalem. Gil has been given exclusive access to observe and photograph the religious and cultural rites of these communities, ceremonies that have never been photographed before and have never been shown to the outside world.
