UAA Wind Ensemble fall 2015 tour, Nov. 13 and 17

Tuesday, Nov. 17, 7-8:30 p.m. Dimond High School

The UAA Wind Ensemble will perform at the Dimond High School cafetorium in a joint performance with the Dimond High School bands directed by Jason Edwards.

This year's featured faculty soloist is Jeffery Manley, performing the Tuba Concerto by Edward Gregson. Manley served 20 years as a U.S. Air Force musician. He was principal tubist of the Mid-America Concert Band at Scott AFB, and also had postings in the Air Force Band of the Pacific in Tacoma and later in Anchorage. Since coming to Alaska in 2000, he has performed with the Anchorage Symphony, Anchorage Opera, Anchorage Concert Chorus, as well as the Glacier Brass Quintet. Manley retired from the Air Force in 2006. He currently teaches tuba at UAA and is also an instrument repair technician at Alaska Music & Sound: Home of the Horn Doctor.

Also on the program will be works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Eric Whitacre, Peter Graham and Percy Grainger.

This concert is free and public is invited. The UAA Wind Ensemble will perform an additional free show Friday, Nov. 13, noon, at Kenai Central High School.
