Seawolf Debate co-hosts 2016 Alaska State Drama, Debate and Forensics Championship

The Seawolf Debate Program, in conjunction with the Alaska School Activities Association and Anchorage School District, will welcome 24 high schools and 212 student competitors from across the state to participate in the Alaska Drama, Debate and Forensics Championship at East Anchorage High School Feb. 18-20.

The Seawolf Debate Program has been a proud supporter of the high school Drama, Debate and Forensics (DDF) circuit and is excited to be back as the annual host to the program, a role we've served since 1998. Over the course of three days, roughly 70 community volunteers and 48 high school coaches will serve alongside members of the Seawolf Debate Program as guest judges for the event while Seawolf Debate staff members manage the logistics of the tournament and provide volunteer hospitality. Student competitors who have previously qualified for participation at the state tournament and were selected by their program coaches will compete in a series of preliminary rounds in 16 different kinds of events ranging from several styles of debate to various interpretation and acting events in both prepared and extemporaneous formats.

While individual school districts and regions host invitationals throughout the year, the state championship is the one opportunity all of the participating DDF programs have to coalesce and measure their performance against all Alaska competitors. The reigning champion in each qualifying category will have the opportunity to represent Alaska at the 2016 National Speech & Debate Tournament, hosted by the National Forensics League in Salt Lake City in June.
