UAA Green Fee Board sponsoring installation of additional water refilling stations around campus

UAA Green Fee Board is proud to sponsor the installation of additional water refilling stations around campus, reducing the consumption of one-time-use plastic water bottles.

In 2014, a number of drinking fountains on campus were replaced with new ADA-accessible water bottle filling stations, commonly referred to as hydration stations. Each station has a counter that tracks every 20 ounces of water dispensed. As of January 2016, UAA's 27 hydration stations (in 17 buildings across campus) had filled over 441,000 bottles. Facilities has several more hydration stations in inventory, but due to resource constraints has been unable to dedicate personnel to install them. This partnership with the Green Fee Board will allow Facilities to utilize contract labor to continue the growth of this great program. The additional water refilling stations sponsored by UAA Green Fee Board will promote sustainability by reducing the number of one-time-use plastic water bottles from entering landfills.

The Green Fee is a $3 fee paid by students attending the University of Alaska Anchorage. The fee promotes sustainability, economic pragmatism and social responsibility efforts throughout the campus community by funding initiatives ranging from energy efficiency studies to the Green & Gold Bikeshare Program.
