The Dean of Students Office and the Alcohol, Drug, and Wellness Educator are hosting a webinar from the Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Drug Misuse Prevention and Recovery titled "Beyond the Basics: Pharmacology of Commonly Misused Prescription Drugs."

Webinar description: This webinar will educate participants on how commonly misused prescription drugs work in the brain to produce euphoria, dependency and addiction-and how their absence may cause withdrawal. We will identify factors that increase a drug's addiction potential, including a drug's formulation and route of administration. Lastly, we'll conclude by discussing the current approaches to treat opioid addiction or to rescue an opioid overdose.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain how commonly misused prescription drugs work in the brain to produce euphoric effects, dependency and addiction.
  2. Identify factors that increase the addiction potential of a drug.
  3. Discuss the current approaches to treat opioid addiction or rescue an opioid overdose.
