When he was just 7 years old, David Holthouse was raped by a 17-year-old family friend. Twenty-five years later, David learns the man who destroyed his childhood has moved into his new neighborhood. And so David meticulously plans the murder of the Bogeyman.

The UAA production of "Stalking the Bogeyman," based on Holthouse's true account, runs April 1-24, 2016, in the UAA Fine Arts Building. This project is a partnership between Theatre and Dance, Psychology, and Art, along with several community organizations. Post-show talkbacks follow each performance, offering on-site mental health support and therapeutic art experiences for actors, crew and audience members. Students in the UAF/UAA Clinical-Community Psychology Ph.D. program are studying the production and audience response.

April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and National Child Abuse Prevention Month. UAA's "Stalking the Bogeyman" project aims to raise awareness of and combat childhood sexual abuse and sexual violence in Alaska. Rates of childhood sexual abuse in Alaska are among the highest in the nation, with about one in three girls and one in five boys sexually abused by age 18.

After its Anchorage run, the play tours to several Alaska communities, including Mat-Su, Homer, Seward, Valdez and Fairbanks.

Tickets are on sale now at UAATix.com. Learn more at the UAA Department of Theatre and Dance website.
