Oct. 7, 2016: Deadline to apply for leadership honors and role of Commencement speaker

Fall 2016 graduates: Be recognized for your leadership contributions to UAA and the Anchorage community! The application deadline for two opportunities is 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7. Completed applications should be submitted to Student Life & Leadership (Student Union Room 218) or via email at uaa_leadership@uaa.alaska.edu.

UAA Leadership Honors Leadership Honors are awarded to individuals upon graduation to recognize and honor their leadership contributions to the University of Alaska Anchorage while maintaining academic excellence. Leadership activities and involvement must promote individual and collective growth, thereby enhancing student life at UAA. Recipients of UAA Leadership Honors are commemorated at the spring Commencement ceremony, bestowed crimson honor cords, and receive a permanent notation in their academic transcript. Fall Student Commencement Speaker The student commencement speaker offers an address during the ceremony and serves as the representative of the graduating class. Providing the student address during this important university event is an opportunity for the selected student to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating class, reflect upon the past few years and convey a message for the future. Along with notable members of the UAA and UA community, as well as other important Alaskan representatives, the student commencement speaker will participate in pre-commencement activities and be seated on the main stage during the program. This year's fall commencement will take place Sunday, Dec. 18 in the Alaska Airlines Center. For eligibility criteria and application go to uaa.alaska.edu/studentleadership.
