Board of Regents to discuss Strategic Pathways, FY18 budget and more at September meetings

by Michelle Saport  |

The University of Alaska Board of Regents will meet Sept. 15-16 in Juneau to take up a range of critical issues from options suggested in Phase I of Strategic Pathways to a preliminary review of the proposed university FY18 budget request.

UA President Jim Johnsen will share with the regents his thoughts and possible recommendations based on options suggested by Phase I Strategic Pathways review teams. Strategic Pathways is the framework the University of Alaska is using to improve service to the state.

In addition to Strategic Pathways and the FY18 budget, which will include ideas for tuition and enrollment, regents also will discuss:

  • Pursuing a general revenue bond package for completing the UAF engineering building, which marks the final step in the project.
  • A report on single-accreditation versus three separately accredited universities.
  • President Jim Johnsen's first-year performance review and compensation.
  • An update on Title IX.

The September meeting also marks the beginning of a new way the board engages with the public. The board hosted a two-hour teleconference Sept. 6 and will continue to accept written testimony at any time. Written testimony, which is shared with the president and full board, can be submitted to ua-bor@alaska.edu. Regents also will hold an evening gathering from 5:30-7 p.m. at the UAS Student Rec Center in Juneau on Sept. 15.

Audit, academic and student affairs, and facilities and land management committees are meeting via video conferencing Sept. 8-9. The committee and full board meetings can be streamed online. Links to video streaming and agendas are located at alaska.edu/bor/agendas.
