CANCELLED: Historian John H. Cloe presents 'Mission to the Kurils' Monday, Nov. 21, 5-7 p.m. UAA Campus Bookstore

The book Mission to the Kurils describes the World War II air and naval operations against the Japanese home islands from Alaska's Aleutian Islands. The U. S. strategy, according to author John H. Cloe, was to starve the Japanese by bombing salmon canneries on the island chain.

John H. Cloe is a retired Air Force historian and is the recipient of numerous awards including the Alaska Historical Society's Alaskan Historian of the Year and Trail Blazer Awards. Mission to the Kurils is full of interesting historical anecdotes and is the third book written by John H. Cloe.
