UAA student Amanda Sassi as the recipient of the 2016-17 Second Bridge Scholarship Award.

The Center for Community Engagement and Learning (CCEL) is pleased to announce Amanda Sassi as the recipient of the 2016-17 Second Bridge Scholarship Award. Her faculty sponsor is E. Jamie Trammell, assistant professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies.

Amanda is an environment and society undergraduate student at UAA. Her project, "Permaculture Design to Further Community Gardens in Girdwood," will bring together community partners in Girdwood, like the Four Valleys Community School, to improve sustainable community garden programs. Amanda will travel to attend a permaculture design course and translate that service-learning experience into action by providing community gardening workshops and by expanding and designing sustainable community gardens.

The Second Bridge Scholarship Award provides $1,000 to a student who has crossed a "first bridge" and now seeks to expand his or her understanding of cultures or local or global issues and push the boundaries of traditional education. CCEL matches the award for an additional $1,000. For more information about this award, please visit the CCEL website.
