Farewell for CBPP Dean Rashmi Prasad

by Sam Gingerich , Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs  |

Dear UAA Community,

I am saddened to announce that Dr. Rashmi Prasad has decided to step down as dean of the College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP). His last day will be March 3, 2017.

Dr. Prasad has been a faculty member with CBPP for 16 years. Since March 2013, he has led the college as dean, and for nearly a year before served in the role of interim dean. His passion for teaching and his commitment to his students has underpinned all of his work as a professor and as dean.

Dr. Prasad has been instrumental in a number of key initiatives for CBPP, the university and the state of Alaska. At CBPP, he championed high-quality teaching and research, fostering academic excellence in the college's programs and curricula. While dean, he led the college's accreditation efforts, resulting in renewal through the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. This status is earned by fewer than five percent of business schools worldwide.

Under Dr. Prasad's leadership, CBPP staff and faculty worked tirelessly to build partnerships with businesses, nonprofits and government organizations. Programs such as Leadership Fellows, Job Shadowing, Alaska Native Organization Management and Justice for Fraud Victims have garnered accolades, benefited the community and supported student success. Gov. Bill Walker and Lt. Gov. Byron Mallott thanked Dr. Prasad for his and UAA's support, which contributed to the success of the Governor's Housing Summit.

This academic year, Chancellor Case requested Dr. Prasad lead a team to develop UAA 2020, a strategic-planning process designed to help UAA thrive in its current dynamic and complex environment by setting goals to be fulfilled in a three-year time frame. This project has already yielded benefits in the form of a more focused set of core values for UAA, by fostering participation of the university community in the goal-setting process.

Sincerely,
Sam Gingerich
Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs
