STAR: Standing Together Against Rape opens resource center on campus

STAR: Standing Together Against Rape now has an office on campus in Rasmuson Hall, Room 118. Monday through Thursday, an advocate will be available to meet with students and staff about any needs they have.

The STAR satellite office is open: Monday-Thursday, 1-5 p.m. Friday, by appointment

One-on-one advocacy sessions by appointment or walk-in offer:

  • Individualized support services
  • Reporting options
  • Legal assistance
  • Assistance accessing Title IX
  • Safety planning
  • Access to counseling services and groups

Support services offered by STAR include:

  • Explanation of reporting and healthcare options
  • Hospital response and assistance filing a police report
  • Information and referral for other support service agencies
  • Education and information regarding sexual assault
  • Information and referral to other support agencies across the state
  • 24-hour support through our crisis line (907) 276-7273 or 1 (800) 478-8999

Safety planning resources offered by STAR include:

  • Information and resources on relationship safety and dating violence
  • Information about power-based violence prevention programming

Engagement opportunities offered by STAR include:

  • Volunteering to help reduce violence and trauma within Anchorage
  • Potential internship opportunities
  • Attending or assisting with special events and fundraising activities

STAR provides confidential services to everyone. With a new satellite office in Rasmuson Hall, Room 118, STAR is now able to provide accessible care to UAA. STAR has served Anchorage for 40 years. While their main office sits off of Fireweed, STAR's presence at UAA is intended to ensure convenience for students and staff when faced with difficult situations.

Questions and concerns should be addressed to the crisis line or during a walk-in session. STAR is ready when you are-no matter how long it's been. Violence doesn't discriminate and neither do we.
