Update on Strategic Pathways review of embedded IT positions

by Michelle Saport  |

Thanks to all who nominated faculty for inclusion on the committee to perform UAA's review of embedded IT positions. The committee, which is now finalized, comprises six members:

  • Harry Banks, Matanuska-Susitna College
  • Dennis Drinka, College of Business and Public Policy
  • Joe Fugere, IT Services
  • Veronica Howard, College of Arts and Sciences
  • Ron Kamahele, Human Resource Services
  • Kirk Scott, College of Engineering

The committee will be meeting during the week of spring break to analyze embedded IT positions and make recommendations. The charge of the committee is as follows:

  • Review embedded IT positions and related information;
  • Make a recommendation to the provost and vice chancellor of administration for each position;
  • Remain autonomous; and
  • Integrate position via direct or matrix reporting relationship.

Through this process, it has already become clear that organizations around UAA have made decisions to reduce IT spending due to budget pressures. Eighteen percent of the positions in scope for review have been or will be reduced prior to FY18. Positive and open discussions around this process have revealed these cuts as well as other efforts to rethink IT-related work. The committee will have the opportunity to analyze the broad set of IT-related work being conducted at UAA and recommend additional opportunities for collaboration among IT personnel.

Thanks to committee members who have volunteered to spend much of their spring break in committee meetings.
