Chancellor Tom Case to retire from UAA

Dear Colleagues, Students, Friends:

It is with heartfelt appreciation that I write to tell you that the time has come for me to retire from UAA. My last day on campus will be June 30, 2017.

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve UAA as Chancellor and Dean of the College of Business and Public Policy. After 12 cumulative years with the university, I am humbled to have done meaningful and rewarding work alongside passionate, dedicated people who believe in providing opportunities for students to change their lives for the better. I am tremendously proud of all you have accomplished during our time together.

While there is no ideal time to leave a place you care deeply about, I am confident in UAA's strength and resilience, and I know that UAA has the momentum to continue to successfully grow and evolve despite the challenges we are facing today. UAA 2020 and our NWCCU institutional reaffirmation of accreditation are empowering processes to help drive us forward in fulfilling our mission.

Today our alumni are more than 50,000 strong. Our graduates are making a difference locally, nationally and globally, and it is your work that has made-and will continue to make-that possible. Thank you.

Expect a message from President Johnsen announcing my retirement to be released soon. Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Sam Gingerich has agreed to serve as Interim Chancellor. I ask that you continue to work together, as you do so well, and to model positive leadership at every level to ensure productive change at UAA. You are in good hands.

Though I'm retiring as Chancellor, I will never stop being a Seawolf. UAA will be a part of who I am forever. My wife Susan and I wish you all the best. You are truly amazing.
