UAA faculty Martha Amore earns Lammy nomination for 'Building Fires in the Snow'

by Michelle Saport  |

Building Fires in the Snow, co-edited by Martha Amore, term instructor of English at UAA, is a finalist for the prestigious Lambda Literary Awards (affectionately known as "Lammys"). The book, published by University of Alaska Press and co-edited with Lucian Childs, is a collection of short fiction and poetry by LGBTQ Alaskans. The anthology celebrates the diverse LGBTQ communities thriving in the cities and rural areas at the edge of Alaska's rugged wilderness.

Now in their twenty-ninth year, the Lambda Literary Awards celebrate achievement in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer writing. Seventy-five literary professionals-including booksellers, book reviewers, librarians, authors, academics and previous Lammy winners and finalists-volunteered countless hours of reading, critical thinking and invigorating discussion to select the finalists in 23 categories for this year's awards. View all nominees at lambdaliterary.org. The winners will be announced at a gala in New York City on June 12, 2017.
