April 13, 2017: David Ramseur presents 'Melting the Ice Curtain: Alaska-Russia Relations'

by Michelle Saport  |

Knik Lecture: 'Melting the Ice Curtain: Alaska-Russia Relations' Thursday, April 13, 6:30-8 p.m. Chugiak High School Auditorium

By the mid-1980s, tensions between the world's superpowers eased and Alaska once again served as a gateway to the Far East. As a political aide to Governors Cowper and Knowles and Senator Begich, David S. Ramseur had a front row seat to the warming relationship between Alaska and Russia. Consider joining us as Ramseur looks at how Alaska emerged from the Cold War era and helped melt the Ice Curtain.

Also included: a special dance performance, refreshments and an introduction by Mat-Su College Director Talis Colberg. Join us in celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Alaska Purchase as part of a statewide commemoration.

David S. Ramseur is a visiting scholar in public policy at the UAA Institute of Social and Economic Research where he is currently working on a book on contemporary Alaska-Russia relations.
