Yasuhito Nakasato: Artist of the Outside Looking In Saturday, April 29, 1-3 p.m. UAA Campus Bookstore

Born and raised in Tokyo, Yasuhito Nakasato came to Alaska in 2010 to study graphic design at UAA. After he graduated UAA, he started to experiment with making drawings out of acrylic. As an artist, much of his inspiration came from studying art history with Professor Charles Sean Licka, where he came to realize "anything is possible in art."

At this event, Yasu will discuss his artwork as well as what motivates his artistic expression and creative passion.

There is free parking at UAA on Saturdays.

Erin McKittrick presents her book, Mudflats and Fish Camps: 800 Miles around Alaska's Cook Inlet Thursday, May 11, 9:30-11:30 a.m. UAA Campus Bookstore

Seldovia-based outdoor adventure author Erin McKittrick's new book is Mudflats and Fish Camps: 800 Miles around Alaska's Cook Inlet (Mountaineers Books).

Erin, the acclaimed author of A Long Trek Home, with her husband Hig and their two young children paddled and hiked the 800 miles around the Cook Inlet in a 3.5-month period. In Mudflats and Fish Camps, she writes about their adventures, the history of the inlet, the culture of the area, and their observation and experiences with wildlife.

Erin McKittrick has a master's degree in molecular and cellular biology, and writes regularly for Alaska Dispatch News. In 2007, she and Hig founded Ground Truth Trekking, a nonprofit organization that combines "ground truth" with "researched truth," using science and adventure to further the conversation about Alaska's environmental issues.

This event is held in conjunction with UAA Appreciation Day and UAA Staff Council.

Everyone is encouraged to attend this event.  There is free parking for this event in the South Lot, Sports Complex NW Lot, West Campus Central Lot and Sports Campus West Lot.

Mother's Day Author Event with Lael Morgan, Lizzie Newell , LaVon Bridges and Alice Wright Saturday, May 13, 1-3 p.m. UAA Campus Bookstore

Celebrate an early Mother's Day with local Alaskan authors as they read and discuss their books and writing.

Guest authors include:

• The incredible Lael Morgan, co-founder of Epicenter Press, and author of Good Time Girls of the Alaska-Yukon Gold Rush. Her new book isKitchen Stories Cookbook: Comfort Cookin' Made Fascinating and Easy (co-authored with Linda Altoonian).
• LaVon Bridges, teacher in the Anchorage School District, and Alice Wright, retired teacher. The duo co-authored Alaska Animals, We Love You! 2, a children's book of songs and poems.
• Science fiction author Lizzie Newell, whose newest book is The Tristan Bay Accord.

There is free parking at UAA on Saturdays. Everyone is invited to attend.
