UA operating budget update

by Michelle Saport  |

Dear UA Community,

State agencies issued press releases June 8 outlining the potential impacts to their operations in the event that a state operating budget is not passed by July 1. While the university remains hopeful that the Legislature will complete its work by June 16, University of Alaska President Jim Johnsen will meet with the UA leadership team early next week to analyze potential impacts on university operations and discuss the possibility for furloughs and layoffs if there is no operating budget.

While many of the impacts are not yet known, the university will use its best efforts to maintain critical operations and services for our students and communities as well as the research and educational programs funded by external sponsors after July 1.

The UA Board of Regents will hold a special meeting June 22 to discuss the university's FY18 operating budget.
