UA Board of Regents to hear updates on Strategic Pathways, single college of education and system organization - Sept. 14-15, 2017

by Michelle Saport  |

The University of Alaska Board of Regents will receive updates on the final phase of Strategic Pathways and progress on creating a single UA college of education at its September 14-15 meeting in Juneau. The board also will discuss university system organization with nationally respected experts on education administration and hear committee, financial and governance reports.

UA President Jim Johnsen will discuss his initial thoughts on the seven areas under review in Phase 3 of the Strategic Pathways process - arts and humanities, social and natural sciences, mine training, finance, risk management, land management and facilities - and present an update on recommended adjustments to UA's plan to establish a single college of education.

The board also will hear about progress the university has made on its compliance with the Voluntary Resolution Agreement with the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights, including new scorecards that indicate steps made by each university to comply with Title IX requirements.

On Friday, the board will hear a presentation from the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems (NCHEMS) and engage in a discussion with NCHEMS experts on university system organization, efficiencies and improving strategic decision-making in higher education administration. NCHEMS experts presented preliminary data at the board's June meeting.

Additional items on the board's agenda include the university's enrollment plan and budget planning process. The board also will: review and consider the president's performance indicators and performance-based compensation; take up an initial discussion about proposed tuition increases for academic years 2019 and 2020; consider revisions to employee annual leave policies; approve labor union contracts; and, approve honorary degrees and meritorious service awards.

All full board and committee meetings are open to the public. Livestream is available online with the exception of any executive session.

All meeting agendas are available on the Board of Regents website at alaska.edu/bor/agendas.
