Dear UAA students,

I know being a college student can be exciting in so many ways. I also know that local, national and global events can impact us and weigh heavily on our hearts and in our minds. Over the past several months, we've witnessed violence, political unrest and natural disasters that represent potential disruptions to your life as a student here at UAA. I recognize these matters, while outside the university's control, may significantly impact your ability to focus fully on your academic pursuits. The Dean of Students Office and the units across campus that we support strive to advance equity, access and inclusion for all learners by providing leadership and support in multiple areas of UAA students' lives. In support of students and the entire UAA community, I want to encourage you to ask us for help when you may be feeling challenged with academic or personal matters. The university provides a number of resources to assist students, including the Dean of Students Office, Student Health and Counseling Center, Multicultural Center, Department of Residence Life, Disability Support Services and Native Student Services. Please consider contacting one of these offices if you have concerns that may be impacting your educational pursuits. As things continue to happen here in Alaska and around the world, I want you to know that there are members of the university community here to support you. That is our goal and our commitment to UAA students. Best wishes for a most successful fall semester at UAA.
