Volunteer at second annual UAA STEM Day - Oct. 7, 2017

by Michelle Saport  |

Are you wondering how to get K-12 students interested in STEM fields? Looking for an opportunity to talk with the public about the important work you or your group are doing at UAA? Have UAA students doing great work that you would like to showcase to K-12 students and their families? Save the date for UAA STEM Day, Oct. 7!

More than twenty UAA and community programs volunteered to participate in our first UAA STEM Day last fall, and we had more than 500 visitors come to the event. We are aiming for even greater success this year with UAA's second annual STEM Day and hope that you will volunteer to be involved. In addition to faculty and staff participation, we encourage you to include your undergraduate students who are actively involved in STEM activities with faculty (e.g., contributing to research activities).

UAA STEM Day Saturday, Oct. 7, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. (Set up from 9-11 a.m., clean up from 4-5 p.m.) ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building, Atrium

There are several volunteer opportunities:

  1. Host a table with an interactive activity for visitors to engage in throughout the day.
  2. Volunteer to do a 30-minute tour or demo (e.g., ecology tour around Goose Lake).
  3. Volunteer the day of the event to assist in keep everything running smoothly (e.g., set up, greeting and answering questions from visitors, clean up).
