Diane Hirshberg participates in Rovaniemi Arctic Spirit panel discussion

UAA's Diane Hirshberg, professor of education policy in the Institute of Social and Economic Research, was invited to participate in a panel discussion at the Rovaniemi Arctic Spirit conference, organized by the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland and the City of Rovaniemi, Nov. 14-16, 2017, in Lapland, Finland.

The conference gathers policymakers, academia representatives and other stakeholders for Arctic discussions. Specifically, the panel discussion focused on sharing ideas on culturally sustainable education.

Jeff Welker, UArctic Research Chair and UAA & University of Oulu professor of biological sciences, was also in attendance. He will soon be conducting Arctic water isotope cycle research in collaboration with University of Oulu and the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) at a new research site-"Pallas"-located at 600 meters in elevation in Arctic Finland, FMI's premier Arctic Atmospheric Chemistry Monitoring Station.
