March 21, 2018: How do you solve a real problem and design for the future?

March 21: Introduction to Design ThinkingIntroduction to Design Thinking Wednesday, March 21, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Anchorage Museum

This one-day experiential workshop is based on the proven methods of teaching design thinking at Stanford University d.school and HPI School of Design Thinking, and it is tested and perfected through our work.

The main rule of the workshop is "experience first, discuss second." There are no PowerPoint slides, no theory; just pure doing and a recap session at the end of the day to extract the theory behind design thinking-the process, the key tools and the mindsets.

During the day, the participants will go through one design sprint, a fast-paced run through the design thinking process. In the morning, they will be split in small teams (4-6 people) and given a challenge, which they will have to solve by the end of the day by applying design thinking to it.

Facilitators from University of Alaska Anchorage and Alaska Pacific University will also support the work of the teams. The day will finish with presentations by all teams.

The teams will be working on an Anchorage-based topic, relevant to a wide group of people. The workshop is open to anyone, including those with little to no experience in design thinking. There are no requirements for topic-specific knowledge either. All that is needed is an open mind and team spirit.

Dress code: Casual attire and comfortable shoes.

Coffee, lunch, and light snacks are included with registration. Register here.

This event is co-sponsored by the University of Alaska Anchorage, Alaska Pacific University and the Anchorage Museum.
