Kids2College volunteers needed - April 20, 2018

UAA will welcome the Kids2College program back to campus on Friday, April 20, 2018. Kids2College is a program intending to spark an early interest in fifth and sixth grade students to attend college. An estimated 800 students will visit campus during the event this year, and we need your help to make it a valuable and fun experience for them.

We are recruiting for students, faculty, staff or community members to serve as instructors to teach 30-minute hands-on learning sessions.

Each class will rotate through three learning sessions and a lunch period while on campus, a total of four sessions. As an instructor, you can commit to teach during one to four sessions. Be creative in determining what and how you'd like to teach! Past classes have included: Army ROTC, psychology, business, diversity, graphic art, college jeopardy, career exploration, acting, financial literacy, newspaper, KRUA and student life.

We are also looking for volunteers to guide classes of students (assisted by their teachers and chaperones) around campus, as well as assist with other duties on the day of the event. As a volunteer guide, you will get to spend the day with a class of students identified by a color and animal. You'll be the keeper of that class's schedule and make sure your class gets to the correct locations on campus.

Additional volunteers are needed to make sure rooms are unlocked, technology is working and instructors are ready to go in their location.

Buses will unload at 9:30 a.m. Each bus will be met by their volunteer guide and head off to their first class. From there, the tentative schedule will be:

9:30 a.m. - Buses unload 9:50 - 10:20 a.m. - Session 1 10:30 - 11 a.m. - Session 2 11:10 - 11:40 a.m. - Session 3 11:50 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. - Session 4 12:30 - 1:00 p.m. - Closing session in Wendy Williamson Auditorium
