The University of Alaska Press has released Ivory and Paper: Adventures In and Out of Time by Ray Hudson.
Ivory and Paper: Adventures In and Out of Time is a novel of awakening identity set in Alaska's Aleutian Islands and written with grace, humor and lyrical vigor. Smart-mouthed and opinionated, timid and brash, Anna and Booker stumble into difficulties because of their own choices. They succeed and fail, experience friendship and alienation, wonder and grief. Thrown together on a dangerous quest to return a magical amulet to Anna's Unangan (Aleut) ancestors, they meet pre-contact and 19th century chiefs, the mysterious Woman of the Volcano, and the sinister Real Raven. This is historical fantasy that addresses the universal need for personal and cultural identity.
Ray Hudson is the author of Moments Rightly Placed. He is also the author and editor of several scholarly books on the Aleutian Islands. A retired public school teacher, he is a woodblock artist and poet who lives in Vermont.
Ray Hudson will discuss Ivory and Paper at the UAA Campus Bookstore on Tuesday, May 22, 1-2:30 p.m.
