UAA student Patricia Jackson, engineering major and German minor, has been announced as a 2018-19 Congress-Bundestag (CBYX) Recipient to Germany.

Jackson is one of 75 American students selected for this year's scholarship, from a very competitive pool of more than 700 applicants. During her upcoming year in Germany, Jackson will receive intensive language training in German, take courses at the university and do an internship.

Jackson is the 11th UAA student to receive the prestigious award. Matthew Newkirk, last year's UAA recipient, is currently in Hamburg working on his internship. (View a list of all UAA Congress-Bundestag Scholarship recipients at the Department of Languages website.)

Congratulations go out to Jackson, as well as Professor Natasa Masanovic, faculty advisor for all 11 UAA Congress-Bundestag Scholarship recipients.

In addition to the 75 American students traveling to Germany, CBYX will sponsor 45 German students for a year in the U.S. The exchange aims to promote reciprocal understanding between the two countries and global citizenry.

William Maier, senior director of the CBYX European Office in Berlin, will accompany the German recipients to Anchorage in early May. UAA German students will have an opportunity to meet the scholars May 5.
