Free active shooter preparedness training set for Aug. 17

by Michelle Saport  |

Before you get involved in summertime activities, please mark your calendar and consider registering for a free one-day training session on the active shooter threat. On Friday, Aug. 17, the UAA Office of Emergency Management will host the workshop, taught by staff from Louisiana State University through U.S. Department of Homeland Security funding.

The purpose of this course is to provide campus leaders, faculty governance, student governance, police, campus health and public affairs officers with an understanding and ability to navigate difficult aspects of dealing with campus emergencies. Through an active shooter tabletop scenario, participants will observe a developing incident and respond according to the existing UAA and local emergency procedures.

Contact Ron Swartz at emergencymanager@alaska.edu to enroll or to learn more. Seating will be limited to the first 40 applicants.
