Dr. Jenn Zahrt presents Cultural Astrology: A Brief History of Interpreting Meaning in the Sky Friday, April 20, 6:30 and 8 p.m. UAA Planetarium Tickets: UAATix.com

When you read the word astrology, dubious newspaper horoscopes often come to mind first. Yet, every human culture on earth, past and present, has used the sky to create significance for their societies-religious, political, clerical. This talk explores the various ways cultures have interpreted celestial phenomena to make meaningful sense of the world around them. Jenn Zahrt, Ph.D., will reveal the myriad complexities of astrology and its history, far beyond its current commercial manifestations, and reconnect you to one of the most ancient human traditions.

Jenn Zahrt is an author, publisher and teacher of cultural astronomy and astrology. In 2017, she was appointed as an honorary research fellow at the Sophia Centre for the Study of Cosmology in Culture at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. She researches many forms of astrology emergent across human cultures past and present, with a special focus on early 20th century German culture. She is the founder of Revelore Press, creative director of the Sophia Centre Press and the deputy editor of the peer-reviewed journal Culture and Cosmos. She has taught and lectured domestically and internationally in places such as Canada, the United Kingdom and Germany. She is currently based out of Seattle, Wash.

Zahrt will be presenting at the UAA Planetarium this Friday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., and at the Anchorage Museum for International Astronomy Day this Saturday, April 21 at 4 p.m.
