The UAA Department of Theatre and Dance is hosting the 2018 Earth Matters on Stage (EMOS) New Play Festival and Symposium April 20-22 at UAA.

EMOS is a triennial event, founded in 2004 to call forth and foster new dramatic works that respond to the ecological crisis. Presenters from all over the world will headline a variety of workshops, panels, performances, and play readings exploring the intersection of environment and performance.

The first day features paper presentations and workshops on the way various artists are raising awareness of and reducing the impact on the environment as well as a panel on environmental and climate issues in Alaska. Day two culminates in a panel on the international Climate Change Theatre Action initiative which uses short plays to call attention to global efforts to combat climate change. The panel is followed by a reception.

EMOS will also feature the world premiere of Rain and Zoe Save the World by New York-based playwright Crystal Skillman, the winning script in the 2018 Earth Matters on Stage (EMOS) New Play Competition. Several of the other finalist scripts from the competition will be read during the symposium.

Full registration costs $70 (includes symposium, banquet and ticket to Rain and Zoe Save the World); symposium-only admission is $25 for all three days or $10 per day. UAA, APU, and local high school students can attend the symposium sessions for free. Learn more and register at earthmattersonstage.org.
