Stay at the Visiting Person Apartment (aka VIP Apartment) at KPC’s Kenai River Campus

by Michelle Saport  |

Kenai Peninsula College maintains a VIP (VIsiting Person) apartment located in the residence hall at the Kenai River Campus that is available for use by all UA faculty, staff and administrators during their visits to the Kenai Peninsula.

The normal cost is $50 per night per person but it can be available free of charge for one to three nights simply by hosting an activity that engages KPC students in some way outside of the classroom. The activity or event only needs to last an hour or two and could be related to any professional or personal areas of interest.

For example, a chemistry professor with a love for cooking could teach a cooking class in the residence hall. A dean who loves to fish could take a few students fishing for a couple of hours while a staff member from the business office comes down and joins the students for a pot luck dinner. An English professor could lead a discussion about his or her favorite short story.

There really is no limit to what faculty, staff or administrators could do to "earn their keep" at the residence hall, and the residence hall staff are available to help implement just about any idea that engages KPC students. No matter how you look at it, it is a great deal whether coming to the Kenai Peninsula for personal business or professional.

Available all year long, the apartment is furnished with a queen-size bed, home-style furniture, big screen television and a fully equipped kitchen. It also offers free Wi-Fi, cable TV, free laundry, and access to an in-house gym and the outdoor pavilion, which includes two natural gas grills. Participants are welcome to bring their spouses at no charge as well.

To participate in the program, simply email Tammie Willis, associate director of Residence Life, at tdwillis@alaska.edu or give her a call at (907) 262-0275.
