October events at UAA Bookstore include talks by Tara Ballard amd Steve Konkel

All UAA Campus Bookstore events are free and open to the public. There is free parking for these events in the South Lot, Sports Complex NW Lot, West Campus Central Lot and Sports Campus West Lot.

Tara Ballard presents House of the Night Watch Tuesday, Oct. 23, 4-6 p.m. UAA Campus Bookstore

Tara Ballard's first book of poetry is House of the Night Watch, published by New Rivers Press, and is the winner of the 2016 Many Voices Project. Tara Ballard was born and raised in Alaska. She and her husband have lived in the Middle East and West Africa, for eight years now, where they teach English in local area schools and universities. Tara Ballard holds an MFA from the University of Alaska, Anchorage. Her poems have been published by, or are forthcoming in Bellingham Review; Poetry Northwest; One; Salamander; The Southampton Review; War, Literature and the Arts.

Dr. Steve Konkel presents Alaska Decision Making 2018: Research, Analysis, and Politics Wednesday, Oct. 24, 4-6 p.m. UAA Campus Bookstore

Dr. Steve Konkel teaches Negotiation and Conflict Resolution in the College of Business and Public Policy at UAA. He has published a statewide inventory and economic assessment of wind generation, and studies of the impact of climate change in Alaska's NW Arctic Borough. In addition, he has testified before the State of Alaska Legislature's House Committee on Energy regarding the need for an integrated grid and economic dispatch in Alaska's Railbelt area.

Dr. Steve Konkel holds a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering from University of Colorado, a master's degree in city planning from Harvard, and a Ph.D. in environmental policy and conflict resolution from MIT.
