Advancing in education from small-town Alaska

Ed Lester is principal at Newhalen School, on the shore of Lake Iliamna. After earning his bachelor's of education in 2002, he's been able to advance his education career from the village where he grew up thanks to UAA.

Each April, College of Education graduate students visit Newhalen School, in the Lake and Peninsula School District, to teach a week of interactive classes (as well as attend the science fair, judge the speech competition, watch the talent show, and even go to prom).

2017 Campus Climate Survey results now available

The results of the University of Alaska’s 2017 Campus Climate Survey are now available for review on the Title IX compliance website. The report provides current prevalence estimates projecting the number of university students that experienced sexual misconduct, dating violence, stalking/harassment or sexual assault.

UAA adds Alaska Native-themed GER to curriculum

Students entering UAA in fall 2018 will be part of the first class required to complete three credits of an Alaska Native-themed (AKNT) General Education Requirement in order to graduate with an Associate of Arts or Baccalaureate degree. The new requirement is part of a broader effort to integrate knowledge about the diversity, perspectives and history of Alaska Native and Indigenous peoples into the university's curriculum.

IT Services emailing password expiration warnings to all UAA users

UAA IT Services has begun sending password expiration warning emails to all students, staff and faculty. The first email will be sent 14 days before their password is set to expire, and again two days before if it hasn't been changed yet. The format of the email customers can expect to see is below.
