*The UAA/APU Books of the Year program represents one of the AAC&U's 11 recognized High Impact Practices (HIPs), in this case, Common Intellectual Experiences. HIPs, pedagogies and experiences that improve student retention and success, are known to have an outsized benefit for first generation students and those from traditionally underserved backgrounds. Undergraduate Research (OURS), Community-engaged and Service Learning (CCEL), and ePortfolios (eWolf), are just a few examples of other HIPs found at UAA. Learn more about HIPs here.
