NCBI to host half-day Social Inclusion and Equity workshops - Feb. 8, 2019

by Michelle Saport  |

Registration is now open for Social Inclusion and Equity Half Day Exposure Workshops, NCBI's award-winning Social Inclusion and Equity Workshop presented in a four-hour model, on Friday, Feb. 8, in the Gorsuch Commons, Room 106. Participants may attend from 8 a.m. to noon or from 1 to 5 p.m.

These sessions are useful for academic programs, university employees and students who are unable to attend the full-day workshop, and those who want to gain exposure to the NCBI model. Similar to the full-day workshop, the Exposure Workshop consists of a series of incremental activities that helps participants to celebrate their similarities and differences, recognize the misinformation they have learned about various groups, including their own, learn about and reevaluate personal attitudes and behaviors that are based on the impact of prejudice and discrimination, claim pride in their group identities, understand the personal impact of discrimination through the telling of stories, and learn hands-on tools for dealing effectively with offensive remarks and behaviors.
