Read a poem at the bookstore during 'Woman Scream' showcase - March 1, 2019

by Michelle Saport  |

The UAA Campus Bookstore will highlight the Women Poets International Movement, Anchorage Chapter, and the theme, "Woman Scream," with a special event on Friday, March 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. Hosted by Itzel Yarger-Zagal, people from all walks of life are encouraged to share their own poetry and/or that of other women poets. Instead of offering bilingual or translated poems, readers will explain the meaning of their poem and then recite it in the poem's original language. Poems in English can be recited too.

If you would like to sign up to share a poem, please contact Rachel Epstein at (907) 786-4782 or repstein2@alaska.edu. Open Mic for those not registered given time remaining.

Poetess Jael Uribe founded the Mujeres Poetas Internacional (MPI) Inc., also known as the Women Poets International Movement, in 2009 in the Dominican Republic. The goal is to "enhance the work of women in poetry and reclaim out rightful place in literature."

All UAA Campus Bookstore events are free and open to the public. There is free parking at UAA on Fridays. View a schedule of upcoming bookstore events.
