by Michelle Saport  |

Beginning Metal Art/Sculpture Welding Class March 14-17 | Gordon Hartlieb Hall

This is fast-paced, hands-on class introduces students to the art of metal sculpture and the tools necessary to create a wall or garden sculpture. The focus is on basic welding, cutting, use of power tools, and selection of found objects and up-cycled metals best suited for art and sculpture. Students create a piece of steel metal art while learning valuable insights into composition, structure, materials, finishes, and safety while working both independently and in a creative group setting. Experience in welding is helpful but not required.

All tools, materials and safety gear are included and students will be required to wear long sleeves, pants, and appropriate footwear (leather and/or boots).  Non-flammable (no poly-pro or fleece) clothing and bringing a pair of work gloves is recommended. Register at the UAA Continuing Education website.
