Free webinar on the tenure and promotion process for new faculty, future faculty, and graduate students who wish to pursue a career in academia. Supported by a Faculty Initiative Fund, UNAC, and the Alaska Native Studies Council.

Tenure and promotion is often a 6-8 year process that can be a challenge to new faculty due to the complexities and layers of what is expected of a good file. The webinar will cover the following:

  1. Overview of tenure and promotion.
  2. How to identify hurdles, and how to identify the opportunities that will lead to a smooth process.
  3. What is needed in a T/P file? (CV, letters of support, publications, essays on teaching and research, student evaluations, syllabi, etc.)
  4. Pitfalls to avoid - red flags - challenging administrators and faculty colleagues.

Presenters include: Dr. Maria Williams, professor in AKNS and Music at UAA; Dr. Beth Leonard, director of AKNS, UAA. Both are full professors and have been in academia more than 15 years and have expertise in the area of tenure and promotion.
