National Public Health Week 2019

Join UAA to celebrate 2019 National Public Health Week, April 1-5. See the schedule below for round-up of events happening on campus. In addition to the individual events listed below, a book display will be on show at the UAA/APU Consortium Library all week.

Monday, April 1

Open house with UAA MPH and BSHS programs 3:30-5 p.m. | 1901 Bragaw Street, Second Floor, Suite 220 Come learn more about the Master of Public Health and Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences programs at UAA ! The Delta Omega Honorary Society will also present their new inductees at the event. Light refreshments provided. Free parking.

Tuesday, April 2

Calling all Public Health Superheroes! Using Your Voice for Advocacy Noon-1 p.m. | 1901 Bragaw Street, Second Floor, Suite 290 Presented by Alaska State Representative Geran Tarr The ability to address health issues is supported or limited by policies and law. Learn more about how you can have a voice and be an effective advocate for health care and public health policies. Free parking.

Wednesday, April 3

Evaluating the UAA Smoke- and Tobacco-Free Policy 10-11 a.m. | Rasmuson Hall, Room 220 On Nov. 15, 2015, UAA became a smoke- and tobacco-free campus. Dr. Gabriel Garcia, UAA associate professor of public health, will present the process involved in evaluating the campus smoke- and tobacco-free policy and discuss the policy's impact to the campus over the past three years.

Healthy Alaskans 2020: Our Statewide Health Improvement Plan 4-6 p.m. | UAA Campus Bookstore, The Loft Cheryl Dalena, Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) program coordinator and Healthy Alaskans (HA) co-chair, will present on the Healthy Alaskans 2020 strategic health improvement plan for Alaska led jointly by the State of Alaska and ANTHC. Free and open to the public. Free parking.

Thursday, April 4

No Matter the Weather Walk Noon-1 p.m. | Meet at ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building front entrance Join the campus community for a recreational "No Matter the Weather" walk around Goose Lake. If you can't join us, find a time this week to get out and walk with coworkers, friends and family.

Friday, April 5

American Society for Circumpolar Health 2019 Annual Arctic Health Summit 11 a.m.-5 p.m. | Rasmuson Hall, Room 211 Keynote speaker Dr. Brian Saylor will present on "Local Response to Historical Trauma." New members welcome! Light lunch provided. Free parking.

Academic Insights Day - The Amazing Race: College of Health Edition 5-8 p.m. | Rasmuson Hall High school students will race to more than 20 booths around campus exploring UAA health program opportunities offered through the College of Health.
