Hearings scheduled to restore budget cuts -- UA advocates, show up! Speak out! Show that you are UA Strong!

The House Finance committee begins hearings today on HB 2001 and will take public testimony from 2 to 7 p.m. each day. Alaskans may attend in person or call in and also may submit written testimony to housefinance@akleg.gov.

The hearing schedule is as follows:

We would urge everyone to phone in and express their support for restoration of funding for the University of Alaska.

House Finance co-chairman Neal Foster said Friday that his committee is moving forward to "restore all funding of all vetoed items. In all, the Governor made 182 vetoes. My goal is to reverse those." Foster went on to discuss the Legislature's $200 million in cuts, which he called a step-down approach as government works to reduce expenditures.

University Foundation appeals to donors for scholarship fund support

The University of Alaska Foundation is a private nonprofit Foundation, established in 1974 to solicit, manage and invest donations for the benefit of the university and its students.

With the vetoes to the University of Alaska, totaling $130 million, and the future of scholarship and funding uncertain, the Foundation is asking donors to open their hearts and wallets and contribute to assist with the scholarships that may be lost.

Donors can make a contribution online.

The need has never been more urgent.
