Departmental moves update

by Beverly Shuford, Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services  |

Dear UAA Community,

In follow up to Chancellor Sandeen's video message earlier this month, I'm writing to share next steps with you regarding UAA's departmental moves this fall. These moves align with our campus master plan, which calls for centralizing student services near the campus core so that they are easily accessible.

The plan is for the UAA Campus Bookstore to temporarily move to the Alaska Airlines Center (AAC) in October. Enrollment Services will move into the bookstore space during the spring 2020 semester. The planning effort for a permanent location for the bookstore will begin shortly.

Here's what you need to know about upcoming changes taking place this fall.

  • Alaska Airlines Center Fitness Room closing — The move of the bookstore means the Student Fitness Recreation Room in the Alaska Airlines Center will close for the duration of the time the bookstore is located in the AAC. The Seawolf Sports Complex will continue to be available to students, faculty and staff as a recreation space.
  • UAA Campus Bookstore move — The bookstore's move will take place between Oct. 14-27, 2019. During this time, the bookstore will be closed. It will reopen Oct. 28 in AAC Room 160. The closure dates were selected to minimize inconvenience to students, and allow ample time for operations to get up and running before the end of the fall semester and the beginning of the spring semester.
  • UAA on the Move — The UAA on the Move website provides an overview of recent moves that have already taken place on campus and moves that will be taking place this fall. We will continue to update this site with information related to the bookstore's move. We also invite you to submit questions to uaa_ayadmin@alaska.edu. We will use questions that arise to inform additions to the FAQ.

Please stay tuned. We will continue to send updates over the next few weeks with information about operations at the bookstore's temporary location.

Sincerely,
Beverly Shuford
Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services
