Level Up! Leadership Series schedule for fall 2019

Level UP! logoLevel Up! your leadership through the 2019 Level Up! Leadership Series.

During this eight-week series, unlock achievements at each one-hour leadership lesson focused on team-building and management skills. Collect 5/8 achievements and earn a Certificate of Leadership Studies.

This leadership series runs weekly during October and November. Each one-hour session will showcase a unique leadership lesson, culminating into a diverse range of leadership experiences over the eight-week period.

Level Up! Leadership Series Schedule (Fall 2019):

Level 1: Leadership Defined
Oct. 2, 1-2 p.m.

Start your journey by exploring the building blocks of leadership with an expert.

Level 2: Organizing 101
Oct. 9, 1-2 p.m.
Student Union Leadership Lab
Presented by Brittney Kupec and Valeria Delgado

The Organizing 101 session will enable students to understand the basics of community organizing. Participants will understand how advocacy and activism have shown up in history through the lens of social justice in the tobacco industry, why it's needed in their communities, and how it can be used to create change. Students will leave this session with the ability to apply these principles to their own local issues.

Level 3: Decision Making

"Every leader is forced to negotiate a compromise between their values." Using 3 different move clips, this highly interactive session will confront leaders with a series of ethical dilemmas and challenge what they would do in the face of conflict.

Level 4: Attributes of Professional Leaders
Oct. 23, 1-2 p.m.

Leaders are all around us; everyone knows at least one and their impact cannot be ignored. Whether through indirect or direct responsibilities leaders shape work environments and guide teams to success. But what makes a leader? Certain attributes are present in all leaders, understanding these attributes and guiding your development in these realms will help diversify your own leadership competencies.

Level 5: The Fred Factor
Oct. 30, 1-2 p.m.

Presented by Lindsey Chadwell

Learn how passion in your work and life can turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. You will be introduced to 'Fred the postman' and the four 'Fred principles' outlined by Mark Sanborn is his book, 'The Fred Factor.'

Level 6: Writing a Winning Resume
Nov. 6, 1-2 p.m.

Presented by Whitney Brown and Allie Hartman

Learn how to market your skills and make yourself stand out. Expand your knowledge of types of resumes and cover letters. Select the right resume for you and create an amazing cover letter.

Level 7: Rethinking the Hierarchy
Nov. 13, 1-2 p.m.
Student Union Leadership Lab
Presented by David Weaver

This session will explore the trade-offs between traditional hierarchical (vertical) leadership structures, and the emerging, more horizontal leadership styles. Horizontal leadership styles include those where front-line staff members are empowered to make significant decisions as part of teams; and where leadership is not the sole source of authority, expertise, and strategic direction.

Level 8: The Final Boss
