LGBTQ+ Community Webinar — Nov. 7, 2019

by Michelle Saport  |

The UAA Campus Climate Committee invites you to join students, faculty and staff at a webinar titled: Your LGBTQ+ Community: Policies & Initiatives to Foster Inclusivity, Engagement and Retention.

  • 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 7 in the Lyla Richards Conference Room (SU 103)

Overview: Laws protecting LGBTQ+ students from discrimination are under attack - there are three significant cases currently on the U.S. Supreme Court's docket this fall to determine whether they will still have protections under federal nondiscrimination law. Your students and staff could find themselves unprotected and left feeling stigmatized and anxious about their personal and emotional safety. With nearly one million LGBTQ+ students open about their sexuality, it's critical for campus program planners and policy makers to implement strategic initiatives to address their needs.

Panelists:

  • Abby Chien currently serves as the director of the Diversity and Equity Center at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington.
  • Dr. Matthew Jeffries currently serves as the director of the Gender Identity/Expression and Sexual Orientation Resource Center at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington.
