Chancellor's Awards for Excellence accepting nominations through March 6

by Chris Huston  |

The Chancellor's Awards for Excellence program is now accepting nominations for the 2020 awards. These awards recognize UAA employees for extraordinary work and dedication to our students and university community. Please take a few minutes to nominate a faculty or staff member who has made a positive impact on your experience at UAA.

This year's program includes several changes, including two new awards and expanded eligibility for nominees. New for 2020:

  • For categories issuing two awards, one will go to the Anchorage campus and one will go to a community campus. Previously, winners were selected without regard to campus location.
  • Sustainability is now Climate Change Impact. Previously awarded to individuals for "reducing UAA's impact on the environment," the expanded criteria now also considers candidates who increase "our understanding or the impacts of climate change through teaching, research or community service." Eligibility has been extended to students (in addition to staff or faculty) at any campus.
  • A new award category, Transformation and Change Agent, honors faculty or staff who made a significant and positive contribution toward support and implementation of a major organizational change. Two awards are available.
  • Also new this year, the Friend and Advocate category recognizes individuals and organizations outside UAA for support of (other than financial) and advocacy for the university and its mission. Two awards are available.
  • Two categories — Safety and Operational Effectiveness — were eliminated due to insufficient nominations in prior years.

The nomination process is simple and easily completed in 15-20 minutes. For most categories, nominators only need to provide basic nominee information and a short answer (250 words or fewer) as to how the candidate meets the criteria.

Submit your nominations by Friday, March 6, 2020. Winners will be announced in early April.
